November 11th is a day full of emotions for many among us. Whether it brings back memories good or bad for our special veterans and their families, it is a day to recognize the dedication to our country and the amazing strength of all the men and woman who are currently serving and have served in the U.S. Military. At Lakewood we are truly blessed to have our lives touched by these individuals and to be able to say thank you for their service.
On Veteran’s Day this year Lakewood joined with Joliet West to honor our veterans in a special way. The wonderful ceremony was presented by Joliet West High School Human Services and Health and Medicine Academy students, as well as Administration, to honor these individuals and presented them with a pin that was emotional for many, but behind those tears were smiles of appreciation.
Not only were we able to celebrate our Veterans in a special way, we were also able to be apart of a truly important moment for our beloved Donald Woodard as he received his honorary high school diploma. Donald left high school prior to graduation and enlisted in the Navy in 1939 to help support his family during the Depression. Thanks to the Joliet West high school’s Junior ROTC the service medals that Don once donated to the union hall were replaced and framed in a display case for Don and his family to cherish. Please take a moment to read Don’s story in the Joliet Herald as we are very proud to have him as part of our Lakewood family.
